Week 46: Sophie Sleeping Peacefully and My Favorite Acrylic Pour

So I love taking pictures of Sophie.  Here she is sleeping on our new holiday blanket which is really, really soft!  Usually she senses when I am taking a picture of her but I was able to get this one with the eyes closed!

So in the acrylic pour world, I had quite a time with my next pour.  There are many factors that go into making one, including the order in which you put the paint.  I could get technical with density, and specific gravity, but let's just say that on the third try, learning from each one, I came up with this:

This is one of my favorite pours.  This one was not what they call a swipe, it was a straight pour with white, primary blue, fluorescent blue and prism violet which under black light looks like:

This was actually a practice run for a bigger project that I am doing.  Takes time, patience, and paint.  Now I am working on the other part of the project and that is proving to be just as challenging.  But that is what I like about it.  There actually is a science to it.  Sure, I could just pour and pour and finally get something or I can delve into the science and learn, using my brain and of course a little bit of luck.

Granted acrylic pours are not for everyone.  It is abstract and not everyone likes that.  But I have had plenty of people messaging me asking me how to get started into this.  There are starter kits at Hobby Lobby or Michael's that have everything you need for $20 and you can find out if you yourself would like it.  For me, it is a good distraction from work.  But the photography ideas are coming back in my mind, bouncing around in my head when I close my eyes.  It is good to keep your mind active.

Three weeks to vacation!  I am starting to get excited about seeing my parents.  I wonder if the Dallas Cowboys will have an epic game like last year that my Dad and I got to enjoy!  Of course just being up there and relaxing is going to be worth it.  It is my home away from home.  And work has been crazy.  Been having to do plumbing (of all the things I do, plumbing is my least favorite unless the water is already turned off) but I have been able to do some painting as well.  New guy starting tomorrow and so I will have a new helper.  Sigh.  Break one in and then I get another.  But his cousin works for us and I love working with him so hopefully that will go well.  If not, trust me, you'll hear about it.

Well, I have to go and snuggle up next to my beautiful wife.  Thank you everyone for your love and support!  IF you are interested in acrylic pouring or want one of my pours, just message me.
