Week 9 Remodel Nightmare turns into Dream
Well a big AMEN !!! The big job that I was in charge of is done! Considering I had two bathroom remodels and to paint a bedroom ceilings and all with just one helper is a testament to perseverance. The owners were gracious and very thankful for the job that we did. In fact, unknown to me until my boss told me, I was given a raving review. They even gave me a gift certificate at the end to take Ginger and I out to eat.
So this job was challenging, to say the least. This is the job that I felt abandoned on, for those that read my blog. Things changed however last Friday when I expressed my displeasure in the morning meeting in front of the group. Even the customers were surprised at how little support I got. So this week I was given some support with the dealing with the customers and vendors so I could concentrate on the job. Because this is what I was looking at day one:
A house built around 1959, that is indeed concrete and metal mesh under the tile. In fact we had to rip out the vanities with this stuff on it and surrounding walls and then put drywall back up or wainscoting. Here is another in progress:
That yellow tile had gone all the way around. A square foot of that can weigh upward of 40 pounds. But we went at it. And the results, well, I will let you decide:
New flooring laid, new cabinet doors, new vanities, new doors and trim, wainscotting, new vanity lights, lots of drywall, new paint. And the tubs and showers were resurfaced. Just a helper and I, except for the resurfacing which we have an excellent guy (and friend of mine) who does it. What I was most proud of was this:
So this does not look like much. But this is oil based paint brushed on by yours truly. No brush marks. This is a hard technique to master, making oil paint look like a glass finish. But through practice, even a couple of videos, asking advise, and even more practice I have been able to get to this point. Am I proud of it? Yes, why yes I am. What helped the most? The acrylic pours I do relies a lot on formulas and additives to the paint. Once I got the right formula for the oil based paint, everything clicked. I still have more to learn but when I saw this (and the customers saw it and how I painted the doors and they looked like this) I was pretty stoked. So am I tooting my own horn a little bit, I will admit yes I am.
Through this whole process God has helped me immensely. I remember when I started the oil based paint I shot a text to Ginger to pray for me. Boy, that prayer worked. In fact she prayed throughout the day. God walked me through the whole process. And I went home a few times at lunch this week to decompress. Of course Sophie was there to give Daddy some love:
Daddy you okay there? Yes my little daughter, the fumes of oil paint have Daddy loopy lol!
And then there was going out to lunch every now and then. One of my new favorite places to eat lunch is Torchy's Tacoes. Especially the Trailer Park Tacos Trashy style:
Spicy Chicken Tacos that are absolutely delicious. And Pucker Punch to drink and your just in absolute heaven.
So last but not least the 52 week challenge this week was Doors. I saw a picture from one of the participants of a door and she said what is behind this door. The moderator put a flashing gif of a clown. And I got this idea of a creepy scene. Yes, it's spooky, I admit. But when I get an idea for a picture in my head I can't get it out sometimes until I take the pic. So without further ado:
What's behind door number 3?
Here is one with a color blend mode:
Do you know what is fun about these? Pulling the equipment out, setting things up, playing with the gels for the flash and taking these shots until I see something that is like yes, this is it. Not too spooky, I know Halloween is already gone, but my creativity has been sparked.
So I did my taxes this week, bills are paid, date night was fabulous at Corner Bakery Cafe, and Sunday is here and with it comes a nap this afternoon, to which I look forward to every week! God has really walked with me through this week. Still dealing with headaches, but that is nothing new. And the studying is going well (wink wink). I pray that everyone has a wonderful week and hope everyone has a restful Sunday!
